These are settlements of ancient origin which, remaining confined to the margins of the major trade routes, have preserved their original urban structure intact. The historic core of these towns is today a priceless heritage of great cultural and artistic value.
There are palaces, churches and buildings dating back to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, squares and narrow stone-paved alleys. A walk along the streets of the historic villages of the Val di Cecina is a very suggestive adventure.
