Tuscany was the cradle of the ancient and in many ways mysterious Etruscan civilization. The main testimonies of these ancestors of ours are the necropolis present throughout the central southern area of the region. One of the most beautiful and perhaps least known necropolis is that of Poggini which is located in the municipality of Castellina in Chianti. The necropolis is located on a hill that was used as a cemetery (necropolis) by an Etruscan community that inhabited the territory from the end of the 7th century BC. up to the 5th century BC Five tombs have been identified in this necropolis: four in the chamber and one in the caisson. The tombs were looted by grave robbers in past ages. The four tombs visible today have a monumental structure and are joined together through a path that winds through the woods.
