The Val di Cecina is a hilly territory full of watercourses and has an incredible landscape value. Here, surrounded by Mediterranean nature, there are numerous historic villages of ancient Roman, Etruscan or Medieval origin. Along the Cecina River you will find large and small communities in complete harmony with nature.
Within about 40 km from Camping Le Tamerici you can visit the villages of Volterra, Montecatini Val di Cecina, Miemo, Guardistallo, Montescudaio and many other small towns.
These are ancient settlements which, being confined to the margins of the major commercial routes, have retained their original urban structure intact. The heart of these towns is today an invaluable heritage of great cultural and artistic value. There are palaces, churches and buildings dating back to the Middle Ages and Renaissance, squares and narrow paved stone alleys. A walk along the streets of the historic villages of Val di Cecina is a very impressive adventure.
It is also an opportunity to taste the typical dishes of the Tuscan countryside, poor recipes of peasant tradition but still tasty and genuine. The agricultural products used in the kitchen come from the fields and the Mediterranean groves that surround the villages.
