EXCURSION TO THE TOMBOLO DI CECINA NATURE RESERVE
The Tombolo di Cecina Nature Reserve has 15 km of Mediterranean scrub and sand dunes. It is considered as the green lung of the Cecina coast, a place of peace and tranquility where you can find refreshment even in the hottest hours of the day. The reserve is also the ideal territory for walking, hiking, trekking, mountain biking and horseback riding .
The dense vegetation is in fact crossed by many paths and dirt roads that can easily be traveled by even the less trained and by children. Often along these itineraries you will find benches and picnic tables where you can take a break.
During the excursions in the Tombolo di Cecina Nature Reserve it is possible to spot the traces of numerous animals that have found refuge in the park . Rabbits, squirrels, hedgehogs and even foxes and roe deer are just some of the inhabitants of the area, there are also many species of birds.
In reality, the long and dense pine forest we know today is the work of man, precisely the Grand Duke of Tuscany Leopoldo . In 1839 he undertook to build a forest that served as protection for local crops so that the winds and salt from the sea did not damage the work of the farmers.
